Description
An ornate antique, 19th century, Balkan - Greek, silver-plated, brass gun powder flask of flattened spherical form made of several separate elements of cast brass fused together. The front and back are formed of two ornate convex medallions, adorned at the top with two dragon heads with open jaws and topped in the middle by the cherub heads. The sides are applied with chain suspension mounts in the form of cherub heads. The bottom sides are applied with double-headed crowned Greek Byzantine eagles surmounted with a Greek cross. The top is fitted with a cylindrical pouring spout, with its original stopper secured to the flask with a chain. CONDITION: In very good untouched condition, showing the age and usage with nice patina. MEASUREMENTS: Height: 17cm (6.69 inches). Width: 11.7 cm (4.61 inches). WEIGHT: 575 grams A nice, good-quality example of a classic Greek powder flask in style often associated with the Greek War of Independence (1821–1832).
