It had a resurgance in popularity in post WWII Japan among the baby boomers. The knives are traditionally forged in either the san-mai or warikomi construction (softer cladding and a hard core steel). Intended Use: Woodworking (including work with bamboo) and general utlity for home, outdoor, and gardening. How to Use: There is no locking mechanism on this knife, thus the user must hold the "chikiri" (the tab for opening and holding open) down steadily at all times during use (the thumb is generally used) Care: The knife is not stainless and can rust if left wet or dirty.
