But most Tibetans in earlier had never seen oceans - for them the oceans were imagined spaces based on accounts by traders and travelers they came in contact with.Coral - as a stone that “grew” in the ocean was prized and worn by both Tibetan men and women. Tibetans prefer a deep red color for color. They preferred larger rounded beads - spheres that were flat on two sides , and with minimum blemishes- and paid a premium price for these stones. They were used with turqoise, dzis and pearls as adornments.Due to the scarcity of these beads, coral prices have only continued to rise.This coral necklace consists of 2 strands with vintage Tibetan coral beads weighing 233 grams. The coral is of a dark red color with few blemishes- each strand can be worn as a separate necklace and versatile to be can be worn with both traditional Tibetan dresses and western attire.
